Newspaper weeds away
Plant your flowers, vegetables etc, work the nutrients in your soil. Layer wet newspapers around the plants overlapping as you go. Cover with mulch and forget about the weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening plastic they will not get through wet newspapers.
Squirrel Away!
To keep squirrels from eating your plants sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.

Everything is looking good Karen. It's amazing how fast things grow, isn't it?
Your Alcea "Roses" looks great - Glad to see things thrieve in the freezing cold winter/ Hot summer midwest! I had to read the Book Gardening in the Hot Midwest to understand the difficult climate conditions, that is so different from here where it never gets to be more than 90F and very rarely below -15F
This is really interesting, Karen, to see how your garden has changed over the last few months. I think this is the time of year we all wait for in the garden, when everything is blooming. Your blooms look great!
That's a great idea. I wish I could remember to take a few photos in sequence like yours. It's very interesting to watch plants progress.
