What is Independence Day?

Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves. ~Abraham Lincoln

After today I will be "unplugged", so to speak, to spend time with family and friends to celebrate Independence Day. I asked my children, ages 20, 16 and 7 if they knew what Independence Day was, and all three of them had different definitions. My youngest didn't know what it was until I mentioned "July 4th", her definition was fireworks. My middle child and oldest didn't know either until I reminded them and both of their responses were "oh yeah, yeah, yeah". (Don't they teach American history in school anymore?) So here is a very brief definition of Independence Day for the United States and a link for Independence Day for all countries here.

"In the United States, Independence Day is commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain."

That was then and this is now:

What does it mean to me? It means freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of choice, freedom to live my life the way I choose. To me it is a celebration of how blessed we are to live in a country that most people want to come to than want to leave. It is a time to celebrate with family and friends and to remember our volunteer brave young men and women whether in peace or war that make it all possible. And finally A picture worth a thousand words.

Here are some fun facts about the Fourth of July.

To all of you Happy Independence Day!

God Bless!
