This is a new flower bed I created on a whim. The area was hard to mow or even grow grass, it mostly grew weeds. I will fill in with plants this fall or next spring. I dug out the border and the rest of the area I covered with newspapers and mulch. It is bordered with allysum and around the bird bath are a few coleus. It's a very nice area to relax in the hammock.

What's Blooming?

Oh to have a great big empty bed to plant things in! Lucky you!
That Iris is gorgeous, too!
That's what I have too---a lot of empty beds. That means money!! That means lots of trips to the gardening centers. It will be fun. Your photos are very pretty. I can't believe how far ahead we are in the growing season. It was 88 here today and I'm watering like crazy.
Lots of lovely blooms! What is the blue one before the tulip tree? Enjoy planning your new flowerbed--sometimes that's my favorite part, well aside from when it's all planted and maturing, of course.
Jamie - I just need to decide what to plant and maybe hit the lottery to buy plants , LOL.
Anna - It's been hot and humid here in the upper 80's, my plants love it! I already have some blooms on my tomatoes and I have never had any this early before.
Rose - the blue flower is mountain bluet (Centaurea Montana). It drops seeds like crazy and spreads everywhere. This plant was given to me by a friend last year and it has doubled in size already.
It's a good idea to make a flower bed where it's hard to mow. That solves a problem and improves the view. But if you don't plant something there now, the weeds will plant themselves!
I really like the up close shots. We sometimes forget to look closely at our flowers. That's where the true artwork is.
Karen, you've been tagged for a meme. Please stop by my blog for details.
I hope we haven't heard more from you this week because you are bailing water out of your house and garden.
Lisa -
No not bailing water out, almost though. My corn has been under water for about a day. Most of my flooding problems have been concentrated in my vegetable garden, although I was a little worried Saturday when I saw the creek flood into the field behind me.
Oh, I envy that big ol' empty canvas waiting to be painted. I am running out of bed space and would love to get rid of some of the grass to make some new beds. Unfortunately, hubby loves grass....
